JOHN DOE
Grieving the Self
One of the most formidable challenges for SCAD filmmakers is Directing the Narrative, a class that tasks students with crafting a 3-5 minute short film within just 10 weeks. Rising to the occasion, Taylor reunites with Brady Kuebler, co-writer of Angler, to bring John Doe to life. Currently in development and set to begin pre-production in January, this project promises to tackle grief from a fresh perspective.
The story follows a young man attending a funeral, only to discover that he is the one being mourned. As he navigates the surreal realization that he is at his own funeral, the film explores grief from within: not as a reaction to losing another, but as a journey of coming to terms with the loss of oneself. Each minute represents a stage of grief, taking the audience through a powerful emotional arc in a compact and poignant narrative.
Set against the backdrop of Savannah’s stunning cemeteries, John Doe not only offers a unique storytelling opportunity but also highlights the talents of the SCAD filmmakers behind the project.
